Should I Join a Mastermind?
Should I Join a Mastermind?
Today I want to talk about Masterminds.
First of all, what is a Mastermind? Well, Napoleon Hill in his 1937 book kind of coined the frame mastermind, and essentially what it is, is it's a group of peers or associates that get together to solve problems right. A group of people that work collaboratively to you know talk to each other and help each other in their businesses so I had never heard of that phrase one before reading think and grow rich by Napoleon Hill or before I also was in real estate was the first time I heard mastermind and I thought that's really interesting the reason I want to bring up masterminds with you is that oftentimes I find that a lot of people are not part of a mastermind and there are so many benefits to being in a mastermind.
So, how do they work well? Typically a mastermind is a group of people that will get together some people get together every week some people get together a couple of times a month or maybe once a month but they get together with some regular frequency it can be via over zoom or virtually, it can be on the phone, it could be in person. It doesn't really matter how you get together but the important part is that you get together consistently within a mastermind there's typically something that they're trying to solve a problem that they're trying to solve for or something that they're doing to help each other in the group sometimes it's around accountability I've been part of accountability masterminds where you get together you report the numbers you challenge each other most of the time though in masterminds that I've been involved in well there's a couple of ways of how masterminds get formed so let's touch on that sometimes it's just a group of people that come together and each of them has a different you know problem that they're trying to solve for or want to generate ideas around or you come together for a specific times and season around a project and when you get together you're typically moving that project forward so that's how typical mastermind works is you get together you talk about things there's always some level of accountability and reporting to be able to come back.
So, now let's talk about the benefits of a mastermind. Well, first of all it's the collaboration right it's that mind share you're not trying to do everything yourself but more than that it's the networking and the expansion of your network and resources that is available to you when you are part of a group now you know when I interviewed Merrill, he talked about one of the reasons he loves to be in masterminds is that he realizes that he's just a small fry in a big huge ecosystem of people you can learn from your peers, you can grow from them you'll also be able to contribute back so at the end of the day I just want to challenge you to find some individuals form your own mastermind or find one to join the collaboration and the mind share alone will be worth it there have been masterminds that have completely changed my life and have given me ideas and saved me hundreds of hours of pain you know and mistakes in my career because I learned from someone else what not to do and they shared that with me so get out there join a mastermind and advance your career.
